TRAFFIC ADVISORY 
Full Highway, Rest Area & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 And State Routes 59, 99, 140, 152, & 165 

January 27, 2023 - MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5) and State Route caltrans logo59 (SR-59), SR-99, SR-140, SR-152 and SR-165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work to occur as follows;

INTERSTATE 5:

  • Full connector ramp closure from southbound I-5 at SR-152 for utility work on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through July 2023.

     o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.

STATE ROUTE 59:

  • Long-term full highway closure from Dickenson Road/Mission Avenue to Sandy Mush Road due to flooding. There is currently no ETO.

     o DETOURS: Northbound SR-59 – take eastbound SR-152 to SR-99 North. Southbound SR-59 – take southbound SR-99 to westbound SR-152

  • Long-term full on-ramp closure from Childs Avenue to northbound SR-99 for construction through February 28, 2023.

  • Full off-ramp closures from northbound SR-99 at Childs Avenue for construction beginning Sunday, January 29, through Friday, February 3, 2023, from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.

  • Full off-ramp closures on southbound SR-99 at Childs Avenue for construction beginning Sunday, January 29, through Friday, February 3, 2023, from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.

  • Full on-ramp closures from SR-140 East to northbound SR-99 for construction beginning Sunday, January 29, through Friday, February 3, 2023, from 9:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.

  • Long-term full off-ramp closure from northbound SR-99 to SR-140 East for construction through February 28, 2023.

  • Full on and off-ramp closures at SR-140 East on southbound SR-99 for construction beginning Sunday, January 29, through Friday, February 3, 2023, from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.

  • Long-term full off-ramp closure on northbound SR-99 at G Street for construction through March 24, 2023.

  • Long-term full on-ramp closure from SR-59/Martin Luther King Jr. Way to northbound SR-99 for construction through February 28, 2023.

  • Full off-ramp closures from northbound SR-99 at SR-59/Martin Luther King Jr. Way for construction beginning Sunday, January 29, through Friday, February 3, 2023, from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.

  • Full on and off-ramp closures on southbound SR-99 at SR-59/Martin Luther King Jr. Way for construction beginning Sunday, January 29, through Friday, February 3, 2023, from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.

  • Full off-ramp closures from southbound SR-99 at West Atwater Boulevard for construction beginning Sunday, January 29, through Friday, February 3, 2023, from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.

  • Full off-ramp closures from southbound SR-99 at Westside Boulevard for utility work on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

STATE ROUTE 140:

  • One-way traffic control from Buhach Road to Scott Road for utility work on Sunday, January 29, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 152:

  • Full connector ramp closure from eastbound SR-152 to northbound I-5 for utility work on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 165:

  • One-way traffic control from Westside Boulevard to Turner Avenue for guardrail repairs on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Motorists should expect five to 10-minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible.
