April 23, 2024 - SONORA, Calif. – On Thursday, April 25, Reclamation’s New Melones Lake will once again host the annual Nature Bowl, an event where students from Amador, Calaveras, and Tuolumne counties compete in environmental themed activities. This year, over 200 students and teachers will join Reclamation Park Ranger staff at the New Melones Visitor Center, participating in fun challenges that test the nature knowledge of 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade student teams. The competition is one of several regional finals taking place in California where top scoring teams are sent to Sacramento for the state finals in May. Participating students gain important ecological knowledge and teamwork skills through the activities.

Nature Bowl on April 25 at New Melones Lake, shortly follows Earth Day on April 22. This year marks the 54th anniversary of Earth Day, which has helped spark the environmental consciousness movement in the United States, eventually spreading around the world. Every year, Earth Day celebrations motivate and mobilize over 1 billion people worldwide to participate in action-orientated events such as cleanups, citizen science, advocacy, and education activities. New Melones Lake is excited to celebrate Earth Day and host the Nature Bowl, which will inspire participating students and public stakeholders to become active environmental stewards within their communities.
