Music on the Green – the free summer concert series brought to you by the Mariposa County Arts Council and it’s many fine sponsors – rolls on into the last weekend of June leaning toward Bluegrass/Americana, presenting The Mountain Men Collective on Friday, June 24, and Bodie 601 on Saturday, June 25, at the Mariposa County Art Park stage.

The Mtn MenThe Mountain Men Collective

Gathered around a single condenser microphone like an old time radio show, The Mountain Men Collective perform a Roots style of Bluegrass/Americana that’s pure as a mountain stream. Singing and playing their traditional instruments (guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, dobro and now including cello), this group is a conglomeration of players assembled from several popular Sierra bands - The Trespassers, The Jespersons, Tarantula & The Turtle Doves, and others– brought together by their mutual love of this distinct American style of music. For more information on this roots music collective, who’ve already headlined The Great American Music Hall multiple times, visit their Facebook page.

Bodie 601Bodie 601

Bodie 601 take their name from the ghost town in the Eastern Sierras where they are homebased. The debut of this self-described “bluegrass-ish” group will feature 3 and 4 part harmony vocals, as well as the high lonesome, western sound of Amy Grahek’s electric violin. Grahek wowed the audience at the Art Park several years ago – fronting her former band, The Coreshots – with her fiddling finesse and dynamic stage prescence, and we can expect more of the same Saturday. More on this wonderful quartet (3 women, 1 man) can be found on their Facebook page.

A complete schedule of the talent performing throughout this summer season (along with a brief description of each) can be found at: MariposaArtsCouncil.org (see schedule below).

All performances begin at 7 p.m. at the Mariposa County Art Park, located on Hwy. 140, between 4th and 5th Streets, in historic downtown Mariposa, CA. Free parking on 5th Street along the Creek Walkway to the Park, also providing handicapped access.

The shows are free to the public – tips for the performers will be solicited, encouraged, and appreciated.

The Mariposa Arts Council – including Music on the Green - is funded in part by Mariposa County, the California Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts. The MARIPOSA COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL, INC. is an incorporated not-for- profit organization, created to promote and support all forms of the cultural arts, for all ages, throughout Mariposa County.
