In December 2023, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) approved the introduction of a new (357) area code in addition to the existing (559) area code. This change impacts all phone services, including wireless and landline users.
What’s Changing?
February 26, 2025 – You must dial 1 + area code + seven-digit number for all calls, even local ones.
March 26, 2025 – New phone numbers may be assigned with the (357) area code, while existing (559) numbers will remain unchanged.
What You Need to Do:
- Update Your Contact Lists – Ensure all saved numbers include 1-559 or 1-357 for future calls.
- Adjust Your Dialing Habits – Always dial 1 + area code + number to complete calls.
- Update speed dials, call forwarding, voicemail, fax machines, and security systems to reflect the new dialing format.
- Spread the Word – Inform friends and family to ensure a smooth transition.
