Apprehended Before Someone Got Hurt

June 3, 2026 –Merced CHP officials report that on Monday night, officers from CHP Merced and deputies from the Merced County Sheriff’s Office located a vehicle involved in a pursuit with the Turlock Police Department the night before.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to yield and fled northbound on Shaffer Road at a high rate of speed. The pursuit came to an end when the driver lost control and crashed near Gertrude Avenue.

After the crash, the suspect attempted to run from the scene but was quickly detained by Merced County Sheriff’s deputies and taken into custody by CHP officers.

While pursuits are never taken lightly, allowing a reckless driver to continue endangering the public can create an even greater risk. Our goal is always to bring incidents to a safe conclusion while doing everything possible to prevent innocent motorists, pedestrians, and community members from becoming victims of someone else’s dangerous decisions.

This arrest highlights the teamwork between the Turlock Police Department, Merced County Sheriff’s Office, and CHP Merced. By working together and sharing information across jurisdictions, officers and deputies were able to locate the suspect vehicle, take the driver into custody, and help make our roads safer.

One bad decision behind the wheel can change lives in an instant. Slow down, drive responsibly, and never flee from law enforcement.
