October 7, 2022 - I have known the Salonen family for years and have worked alongside Kelly in our local real estate industry. She was raised in Catheys Valley and chose to stay because of the strong community values that Mariposa County has to offer. Kelly Salonen embraces what Mariposa knows to be true: We are Mariposa Strong. She is a hard worker, competent, and a loving mother of three vibrant children who attend district schools.
Raising children in the current political environment can be challenging. Kelly knows that many parents feel they are not being heard, and that our schools need more parental involvement. She wants to allow children to be just that, children. Kelly will fight to keep political agendas out of our schools and focus on the basics of education, including arithmetic, reading, writing, history, the arts, fitness, and goal setting.
Kelly believes that current curriculum goes beyond the role of public education, making it complicated and uncomfortable for children, parents, and teachers alike. Kelly will listen to parents, and advocate for our children’s right to learn, without the school overstepping onto parental rights.
Kelly understands that schools need to provide a learning environment where students feel safe and treat others with respect.
