Coulterville’s HISTORY CENTER GALA REOPENING On February 4th

January 27, 2023 - The museum volunteers have been hard at work during this January’s refurbishing …taking advantage of the larger exhibition space to set up some  terrific new displays.  Our most exciting new exhibit is a collection of rare glass bottles, pottery, and other items of daily town life unearthed during the recent land excavation.  The Gala Reopening event will take place on Saturday, February 4th, Then, beginning Saturday, February 11th the museum will resume regular weekend open hours of 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

Gala Reopening Party

GROUNDBREAKING is the theme for this year’s Gala.  We are celebrating moving forward with developing the grounds donated by the Barrett family a few years ago.  An initial conceptual plan has been approved by the County’s Historic Design Review committee and permits approved for initial grading which was recently completed.  Plans are in the works to build a storage facility, which will be followed by building outside exhibits and landscaping the grounds with native plants as well as heritage roses.

Scheduled for Saturday, February 4th, from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the museum, on the corner of Hwys. 49 & 132, this important fundraising event will boast a host of raffle baskets filled with all sorts of wonderful items including a custom hand-woven wool blanket from Wild Fire Sheep Ranch, Native American beaded baby moccasins, an "Italian Dinner" themed basket, a case of white wine, a big basket filled with snacks and candies. There will be many other goodies and surprises to win.  Acoustic music will be provided by two local and very talented musicians…Keith Keenom and Tom Coolidge.

The monies raised will kick-off the reactivation of the museum’s normal annual fund raising cycle that all but stopped during the Covid shutdown.  Tickets are $15.00 ea. in advance and $20.00 ea. at the door.  To obtain some, you can stop by the Coulterville Visitor Center (located in the Coulter Cafe & General Store), which is open daily.  If you live further away and would like more information or purchase early-bird tickets, call 209-595-9502.

The Northern Mariposa County History Center is a 501c3 private, non-profit charitable organization established in 1976, with the museum opening to the public in 1980.  Displays and historic photos provide an authentic glimpse of the life and times of the pioneers who helped settle the local area in the 1800’s and early 1900’s.

Be sure and check out what’s happening at the museum on the “Northern Mariposa County History Center” Facebook page.
