The Blazin’ Hog is on Saturday, September 19
Eat BBQ, Enjoy Great Music, and Help JCF Hospital

Some folks come for the BBQ competition, to taste samples and place their vote for the People’s Choice award.  Some folks come for the great Zydeco music.  Some folks come for both.  No matter why you come to the ‘Blazin Hog’ BBQ Competition and Zydeco Music Festival, everyone who comes is in for a fun time and, is helping John C. Fremont Hospital.  After all the ‘Blazin Hog’ is a fundraising event put on by the John C. Fremont Hospital Foundation to help purchase equipment for Mariposa’s only hospital.  This year is the 9th Annual ‘Blazin’ Hog’.  It takes place on Saturday, September 19, 2015, from noon to 8:00 p.m., at the Mariposa Fairgrounds, in Mariposa, CA.

Barbeque contestants vie for cash prizes.  First prize-$500…Second Prize-$250…Third prize-$100, in each of the three categories, and $100-People’s Choice Award in three categories.  Beef tri-tip, pork ribs, and chicken.  The competition is judged by an 8 to 12 person panel under set rules.  Festival attendees get to taste samples and vote for the People’s Choice awards.  Sampling usually begins at 1:30 p.m. until about 3:00 p.m.  The awards presentation is at 5:30 p.m.

This year the musical entertainment has a Mariposa favorite, the Colorado Road band.  They appear at 12:30 p.m.  At 2:30 p.m. Glen Delpit & the Subterraneans take the stage.  Rounding out the entertainment is The Bluesbox Bayou Band, they perform two sets, one at 4:30 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m.  Dancing is definitely encouraged.  In between sets Cleo Home provides dance lessons.

The Blazin’ Hog event would not be possible without the support of sponsors.  This year’s sponsors are The Mariposa Gazette, PG&E, Sierra Telephone, Wells Fargo Bank, Delaware North Corporation, Doctors Medical Center, Air Methods, Phar America, Miner’s Inn Motel, California Emergency Physicians, and Budweiser.

The festival offers several food and beverage vendors, as well as unique crafts, and art vendors.  Attendance is $15 per person, $10 seniors (65 and up), $5 kids ages 5-17, and children under 5 are free.  Come out and enjoy.
