April 16, 2021 - LOS ANGELES — LOS ANGELES — California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Special Service Unit agents and the Los Angeles Jaime Clara 240x300Fugitive Apprehension Team have apprehended Jaime Clara, who walked away from a reentry facility on April 14.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on April 14, agents took Clara into custody without incident at a Gardena residence after he walked away from the Male Community Reentry Program in Los Angeles earlier that morning. The Fontana and Gardena police departments assisted in the investigation.

Clara was transported to the California Institution for Men, and the case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for possible escape charges. He was received by CDCR from Los Angeles County on Feb. 27, 2020, sentenced to four years for corporal injury on specific persons resulting in traumatic condition, a second-strike offense.  Clara arrived at the MCRP on March 18, 2021. He was scheduled to be released from CDCR custody on June 17, 2022.

The MCRP allows eligible offenders committed to state prison to serve the end of their sentences in the re-entry center and provides them the programs and tools necessary to transition from custody to the community. It is a voluntary program for male offenders who have approximately one year left to serve. The program links offenders to a range of community-based rehabilitative services that assist with substance use disorders, mental health care, medical care, employment, education, housing, family reunification and social support.

Since 1977, 99 percent of all offenders who have left an adult institution, camp, or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.
