July 19, 2021 - Merced – The Merced Police Department reports on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at approximately 6:44 P.M., Officer Rocha attempted a traffic stop on a black BMW in the area of E. Childs Ave. and Coffee St, due to the vehicle’s registration being expired. The vehicle failed to yield, and a pursuit initiated. The vehicle pursuit lasted approximately six minutes. The driver of the black BMW was found to be Joe Samaniego,25, who had a felony warrant for his arrest, and the front passenger of the vehicle was identified as Julian Griffin,19, both subjects were taken into custody. After the pursuit concluded, officers searched the area where the vehicle pursuit came to an end and located a black spring Springfield XD40 that was determined to be stolen. Griffin and Samaniego are convicted Felons and documented Norteno gang members prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. Griffin and Samaniego were booked into Merced County Jail for weapon and gang enhancement charges.
