FCSO standoff

August 12, 2021 - Around 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, August 11, Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies made contact with a wanted felon who was found to have died by suicide.

Shortly after 9:00 A.M., deputies responded to the Flamingo Mobile Home Park (2581 W. Central Ave., Fresno) after dispatchers received information of a man with active arrest warrants who was inside one of the units. He was wanted for domestic violence and other related charges.

At 10:15 A.M., our Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) established a command post to try to talk him into surrendering, but he never complied. Our SWAT team arrived and developed a plan to try and take him into custody. After deploying tear gas into the trailer, they received no response from the suspect. Deputies then inserted a robotic camera into the trailer and discovered a person lying on the floor who was not moving. Deputies eventually entered the unit and found the suspect with fatal, self-inflicted wounds.

The name of the suspect is not being released at this time due to the need to notify family members of his death. He is a resident of Butte County.
