March 19, 2023 - San Diego County Sheriff's Department officials report on Friday, March 17, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) informed the San Diego County Sheriff's 
Department of the arrest of one of our department members following an incident outside the gate of Naval Air Station North Island. The incident involved a driver who attempted to go past the base's main gate without clearance leading military guards to shoot at the car. No one was hurt.
Sergeant Michael Cruz was off duty at the time of the incident. He was booked into San Diego Central Jail on a charge of driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol or violation of Vehicle Code 23152(A). He was booked and released on his own recognizance pending future court dates. He is on paid administrative assignment while a Sheriff's Internal Affairs investigation continues. He was hired on 10/23/2006 and was assigned to the Sheriff's Emergency Planning Detail.
Questions pertaining to the arrest should be referred to the Coronado Police Department and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. The Sheriff's Department is cooperating fully with the investigating agencies.

Un oficial del Departamento del Alguacil del Condado de San Diego fue arrestado bajo sospecha de conducir bajo la influencia.
El 17 de marzo, el Servicio de Investigación Criminal Naval informó al Departamento del Alguacil del Condado de San Diego del arresto de uno de los miembros de nuestro departamento después de un incidente fuera de la puerta de la Estación Aérea Naval de la Isla Norte. El incidente involucró a un conductor que intentó pasar la puerta principal de la base sin autorización, lo que llevó a los guardias militares a disparar contra el automóvil. Nadie resultó herido.
El Sargento Michael Cruz estaba fuera de servicio en el momento del incidente. Fue ingresado en la Cárcel Central de San Diego por un cargo de conducir bajo la influencia de drogas y/o alcohol o el Código de Vehículos 23152(A). Fue fichado y puesto en libertad bajo fianza en espera de futuras fechas de la corte. Está en una asignación administrativa remunerada mientras continúa la investigación de Asuntos Internos del Sheriff. Fue contratado el 10/23/2006 y fue asignado al Detalle de Planificación de Emergencias del Sheriff.
