Fatal Traffic Collision in Encinitas 

April 27, 2025 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on Friday, April 25, 2025, at approximately 6:51 p.m. deputies san diego county sheriff department logowith the North Coastal Sheriff's Station responded to a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian that occurred at Encinitas Boulevard and Village Square Drive, in the City of Encinitas.

Preliminary information indicates that a westbound Nissan Xterra, driven by a 44-year-old male, collided with a southbound Ford Fusion driven by a 44-year-old male.  The Xterra then struck a 12-year-old female juvenile who was walking in the crosswalk.  Tragically, the female juvenile succumbed to her injuries.

Both drivers remained on scene and were uninjured following the collision.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by North Coastal Station Traffic Investigators and the Sheriff's Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team.   

The use of alcohol or drugs is not believed to be a factor in this ongoing investigation.
