Deputies in Apple Valley Arrest Man at Pharmacy; He was Taken to a Hospital Where He Later Dies
May 13, 2025 – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on Friday, May 9, 2025, at about 4:06 p.m., deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to Walgreens on State Highway 18 for an unwanted person. Deputies arrived and contacted Cesar Villalpando who was in a stall inside the bathroom. Villalpando appeared to be under the influence of drugs and was detained without incident. Medical personnel also responded, evaluated him and he was cleared for booking.
At about 5:10 p.m., deputies arrived at the High Desert Detention Center and Villalpando was unresponsive. Deputies administered Narcan and jail medical staff attempted lifesaving measures. Villalpando was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division also responded and assumed the investigation. An autopsy will be conducted by the Riverside County Coroner to determine the manner and cause of death.
