Main Jail Inmate Death
January 15, 2026 – Sacramento County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Wednesday morning, Deputies assigned to
the Sacramento County Main Jail, along with Jail Medical staff from Adult Correctional Health Services, responded to a cell for a 62-year-old male inmate in medical distress. The inmate then stopped breathing, and Deputies and Jail medical staff began CPR. The inmate was then transported to a local hospital by ambulance, where he was unfortunately pronounced deceased later in the morning.
He had been in custody since December 16, 2024, for absconding from parole, failing to register as a felony sex offender with a prior conviction, assault with a deadly weapon, and other violations related to PC 290 sex registration.
The inmate is preliminarily believed to have died due to medical complications, and no foul play is suspected at this time.
The Sheriff’s Office will conduct a thorough inmate death investigation in accordance with Sheriff’s Office procedures and state laws. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause of death and forward its findings as prescribed by law. The Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased in accordance with their protocols.
