Detectives Investigating In-Custody Death at the West Valley Detention Center
February 23, 2026 – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on Saturday, February 21,
2026, at approximately 2:59 p.m., deputies assigned to the West Valley Detention Center were notified of an inmate experiencing a medical emergency. A deputy and a facility nurse who were nearby immediately responded to the housing unit and began rendering aid to the inmate, identified as Alex Alvidrez. Life saving measures were initiated and continued by medical staff until personnel from American Medical Response and the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department arrived. Despite these efforts, Alvidrez was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail responded to the location and assumed the investigation. It was found that Alvidrez was originally arrested and booked at the West Valley Detention Center on October 9, 2025, by the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station on a charge of PC243(D). The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
