Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center Inmate Death 

April 6, 2026 – Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office officials report that at approximately 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 5, 2026, inmates in an open pod setting at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center (RCCC) notified deputies that another inmate was having a seizure. Deputies immediately responded and located a 57-year-old male inmate unresponsive on his bunk. Adult Correctional Health Services medical staff from RCCC responded simultaneously. Deputies began CPR on the inmate. The inmate regained a pulse and was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital. Despite continued lifesaving efforts at the hospital, the inmate was pronounced deceased later the same evening.

The inmate had been in custody since November 5, 2025. He was charged with Sexual Battery Upon a Person Restrained by an Accomplice, Sexual Battery, Sexual Intercourse with a Minor Under 16, Lewd or Lascivious Act with Child Under 14, Lewd Act on a Child 14 or 15 when Defendant is 10 Years Older, Oral Copulation on Person under 16, and Penetration with a Foreign Object with Victim Under 16 years old. The inmate was being held on $1,000,000 bail. The inmate is preliminarily believed to have died due to medical complications, and no foul play is suspected at this time.

The Sheriff's Office will complete a thorough inmate death investigation in accordance with department procedures and state laws. The Sacramento County Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death and forward its findings as prescribed by law. The Coroner's Office will release the name of the deceased in accordance with their protocols.
