Fatal Hit-and-Run Traffic Collision Kills Pedestrian

May 7, 2026 – Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that West Traffic Division detectives are investigating a hit-and-run traffic collision that left a pedestrian dead.

On March 27, 2026, around 3:43 a.m., a white sedan, traveling northbound on Vermont Avenue and collided into a pedestrian, who was crossing on Vermont Avenue from north of 8th Street, outside of the crosswalk. The pedestrian was pushed north and collided with the roadway near Leeward Avenue. The driver of the white sedan continued northbound Vermont Avenue, fleeing the scene without identifying themselves and/or rendering aid to the pedestrian.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and provided immediate medical attention. The pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at scene. The identity of the pedestrian is pending until next of kin is notified.

Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
