May 13, 2026 – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on May 12, 2026, at approximately
12:37 a.m., deputies from the Victor Valley Station responded to the 32000 block of Morse Lane in Lucerne Valley regarding a reported strong-arm robbery involving convicted felon, Nicolas Keith.
Deputies attempted to detain Keith, a 34-year-old resident of Lucerne Valley, after he arrived at the location in a vehicle. As deputies attempted to detain him, Keith reversed his vehicle and accelerated, striking a deputy. Two deputies discharged their firearms, and Keith was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail, responded to the scene, and the California Department of Justice will assume the investigation. One deputy was treated by medical personnel and released at the scene.
