May 26, 2026 – Yuba City Police Department officials report that on Friday, May 15th, a B Night Shift officer attempted to stop a bicyclist for traffic violations. The bicyclist, 33-year-old Garrett Wade Martin of Yuba City, did not stop, leading officers on a short bicycle pursuit. Martin rode into the driveway of a residence located in the 700 block of Orange Street, where he eventually surrendered to officers and was taken into custody without incident.
K9 Rook was deployed to search the area where Martin was last seen. During the search, K9 Rook located a loaded 9mm handgun between two detached sheds. Officers later reviewed surveillance footage that showed Martin discarding the firearm moments before surrendering to officers.
Martin was booked into the Sutter County Jail for grand theft of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in public, resisting/delaying officers, and an outstanding felony warrant.
Excellent work by responding officers and K9 Rook in safely recovering the firearm and taking the suspect into custody.
