Multiple Collisions, Stolen Vehicle, and an Arrest

June 13, 2026 – Yuba City Police Department officials report that last Friday, around 4:00 P.M., Yuba City Police B Swing Shift officers responded to a hit-and-run collision at the intersection of Highway 20 and Harter Parkway.

If you found yourself sitting in traffic on westbound Highway 20 Friday afternoon wondering what was going on, here's your answer.

Officers arrived to find an unoccupied black Honda Pilot with major collision damage blocking both westbound lanes of Highway 20. As officers began investigating, they learned that 33-year-old Genice Tahara of Yuba City had stolen the Honda Pilot before causing a collision at Highway 20 and Tharp Road. Instead of stopping, Tahara continued westbound and ran the red light at Harter Parkway, striking two additional vehicles before the Honda finally became disabled in the roadway.

Not ready to accept defeat, Tahara abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. B Swing Shift officers quickly coordinated their efforts and located Tahara inside a nearby business. Officers determined Tahara was under the influence of a controlled substance at the time of the incident.

Tahara was arrested and booked into the Sutter County Jail for driving under the influence of drugs, vehicle theft, leaving the scene of a collision without providing the required information, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

This incident is a great example of the teamwork and dedication displayed by our B Swing Shift officers. Their quick response and coordinated efforts helped bring a chaotic series of events to a safe conclusion.
