High-Country Health Food and Cafe in Mariposa California

June 24, 2026 – Riverside County Sheriff's Office officials report that in 2025, the Hemet Sheriff’s Station was riverside county sheriff logocontacted by an Ombudsman representative with the California Department of Aging who requested their assistance. The Ombudsman advised that they had received a complaint alleging general neglect of a patient residing at a care facility in the Hemet area. It was later determined that the patient was a resident of an assisted living and memory care facility, located in the 26000 block of Cornell Street, in the unincorporated area of Hemet.

During the investigation, additional victims of elder abuse and neglect were discovered. As the investigation progressed, investigators identified deficiencies in patient care and in the investigation of complaints against staff. As new information was obtained, the size and scope of the investigation increased, requiring assistance from the Department of Justice's Division of Medical Fraud and Elder Abuse, and other county agencies.

Based on the information obtained during the initial investigation and concern for the safety and welfare of the facility residents, investigators obtained a search warrant for the location.

On June 10, 2026, the Riverside Sheriff’s Office, along with the Department of Justice, served a search warrant at the location with assistance from medical staff from Riverside University Health System, the California Department of Aging, Adult Protective Services, and personnel assigned to the Community Care Licensing Department.

During the service of the search warrant, several residents were identified as needing further medical care and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made, and no further details will be released at this time. Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to call Investigator Daugherty at 951-791-3425 or Investigator Navarrete at 951-791-2812.
