Homicide Investigation
July 30, 2026 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 11:29 p.m., deputies
from the Hemet Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to the 24000 block of Rosebrugh Lane, Hemet, regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, deputies located an adult male suffering from wounds consistent with gunshots who was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Investigators from the Hemet Sheriff’s Station assumed the investigation and later identified the suspect as Eric Gomez, a 42-year-old resident of Moreno Valley.
On July 17, 2026, investigators, with the assistance of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Team, located Gomez in the area of Gilbert Street and Stetson Avenue, Hemet, where he was taken into custody without incident. Gomez was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for attempted murder.
On July 27, 2026, the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit was notified that the victim succumbed to his injuries on July 26, 2026. The victim was identified as Ryan Ankenbauer, a 36-year-old resident of Hemet. Homicide investigators assumed the investigation and will resubmit the case to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office with a request for the charge of murder against Eric Gomez.
