Fatal Motorcycle Collision 

August 2, 2026 – Monterey Police Department officials report that on July 30, 2026, at approximately 12:47 p.m., Monterey Police Department officers were dispatched to a single-motorcycle collision just north of the northbound Lighthouse Tunnel exit.

Upon arrival, officers located the motorcyclist, identified as 21-year-old Devin Reyes of Seaside, unconscious in the roadway. Personnel from the Monterey Fire Department and American Medical Response (AMR) responded to the scene to administer emergency medical aid. Reyes was subsequently transported to Natividad Medical Center, where unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Reyes was traveling northbound through the Lighthouse Tunnel. Shortly after exiting the tunnel, his motorcycle struck the center median, causing both the rider and the motorcycle to strike and shear a light pole. The investigation remains active and ongoing.

The collision and subsequent investigation resulted in significant traffic disruptions for several hours. Portions of the Monterey tunnel had to be closed to accommodate the investigation, given the seriousness of the injuries the motorcyclist sustained. Southbound traffic toward downtown Monterey was temporarily diverted to Pacific Street, while northbound traffic toward Pacific Grove was reduced to a single lane.
