August 2, 2026 – Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that on July 29, 2026, at Los Angeles Police Seek Public's Help IDing Driver in Hit-and-Run ...around 6:25 p.m., uniformed patrol officers assigned to Olympic Division responded to a report of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon (ADW) suspect there now, at a gas station located at Normandie Avenue and Washington Boulevard.

The reporting party stated that the suspect, armed with a metal bat, had shattered the windows of multiple vehicles and attempted to strike passing community members. As officers approached the location, the overhead air unit advised the officers that the suspect was walking southbound on Normandie Avenue beneath the Interstate 10 Freeway.

Officers located the suspect walking toward them while holding an aluminum bat in his right hand. After exiting their patrol vehicle, officers repeatedly ordered the suspect to drop the bat. Officers formed an arrest team, took the suspect into custody, and immediately rendered medical aid until personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived and assumed care. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

A 35-inch aluminum softball bat was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence. No officers or community members were injured during the incident.

Force Investigation Division personnel responded to the scene and assumed investigative responsibility for this incident. Identification of the suspect is pending, as the suspect’s next of kin have not yet been notified
