Wanted Felon in San Marcos 

August 10, 2026 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Saturday, August 1, deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff's Station deputies learned of a wanted suspect, Ivan Chi (52) who had two active felony arrest warrants for identity theft and possession of a controlled substance for sale.

Around 8:30 a.m., deputies received a notification from the License Plate Recognition (LPR) camera system that Chi's vehicle was near W. Mission Road and Barham Drive. They located the vehicle and detained Chi who was seated inside. During their investigation, deputies also found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in Chi's possession.

Chi was arrested for his outstanding warrants, as well as possession of controlled substance with prior convictions and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.

The LPR camera system continues to be an important public safety tool, assisting law enforcement in locating vehicles connected to criminal activity and helping deputies identify and apprehend suspects. The above case highlights how LPR technology supports investigations, assists in the recovery of stolen property and helps to remove prolific offenders from the community.
