Patrick Spurlock, a convicted felon, also faces allegations of prior serious or violent felony convictions and personally using a firearm in the killings
August 21, 2026 – LOS ANGELES, CA – A 57-year-old Los Angeles man, who was previously convicted in
2005 of murder and released from prison in 2022, has now been charged with three counts of murder in connection with a triple homicide involving the shooting deaths of three men at a Hollywood apartment last month.
“Three victims were shot and killed, now leaving their families to grieve and people in the surrounding community fearing who will be next,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said. “This defendant has a violent past and had already served 17 years in prison for murder before being released back into our community. We must hold repeat violent offenders accountable and do everything in our power to prevent them from victimizing others.”

Patrick Kevin Spurlock (57) is charged with three counts of murder in case 26CJCF05140. A mental competency hearing is scheduled for August 31 in Hollywood. Spurlock is being held without bail.
Early on July 24, 2026, Spurlock allegedly held Jeremiah Badeker, Jack Cartegena and Michael Bogacz at gunpoint, then shot and killed each of them at close range after an argument inside an apartment in the 1900 block of N. Wilcox Avenue in Hollywood. Spurlock allegedly fled the scene and was arrested on August 13.
If convicted as charged, Spurlock faces life in state prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.
Spurlock was released from the Washington State Department of Corrections in 2022 after serving 17 years for murder.
Deputy District Attorney Jane Brownstone of the Organized Crime Division is prosecuting the case, and the Los Angeles Police Department is investigating.
The charges in this case are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
