Update - Homicide in Santee
September 20, 2026 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Monday, September 14, 2026, at
approximately 2:10 p.m., deputies from the Santee Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at a residence in the 10800 block of Grand Fork Drive in Santee. Upon entering the property, deputies located Gregory Roundy suffering from traumatic injuries.
Shortly afterward, deputies contacted Derek Spratley on the property, also suffering from visible injuries. Paramedics responded and pronounced Mr. Roundy deceased at approximately 2:30 p.m. Mr. Spratley was transported to a local hospital and was medically cleared the same day.
25-year-old Derek Spratley, a resident of Santee, was arrested and booked into the San Diego Central Jail for the murder of his grandfather.
The circumstances and motive behind this incident remain under investigation. Based on the information gathered so far, this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
