Officer-Involved Shooting on Marconi Avenue

October 6, 2026 – Sacramento County Sheriff's Office officials report that on October 4, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Sheriff's Communications Center received a call for service regarding an adult male who was asleep on the ground with a handgun resting on his lap. The caller also stated she believed the individual was the same person who had fired a gun at her and her husband the previous night (October 3, 2026). The caller stated the individual was behind a business at 4313 Marconi Avenue.

Deputies arrived on scene and located the suspect asleep with a handgun on his lap. Due to the presence of the firearm, deputies waited for additional personnel to arrive before attempting to contact him.

Once additional deputies arrived, they woke the suspect from a distance using the horn of a patrol vehicle. Deputies immediately gave the suspect repeated commands not to reach for the handgun and instructed him to stand, raise his hands, face away from deputies, and slowly walk backward toward them so he could be safely detained.

The suspect repeatedly failed to follow deputies' commands. The suspect eventually stood but continued to disregard commands. As deputies continued instructing him to keep his hands raised and walk backward toward them, the suspect lowered his hands and began turning toward deputies when an officer involved shooting occurred.

The suspect was struck by gunfire. Deputies immediately began providing medical aid until fire personnel arrived. The suspect was transported to a local area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The suspect's loaded handgun was recovered from the scene.

Three deputies discharged their firearms during the incident. No deputies were injured.

The investigation into this incident is still ongoing. It will be conducted by the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Professional Standards Division, which is standard practice for any officer-involved shooting that occurs in the Sheriff's Office's jurisdiction. An independent review of the incident will be conducted by the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office. In accordance with the Sheriff's Office policies and procedures, the deputies involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.

Update: The suspect in this case has been identified as a 34-year-old Pacific Islander male. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the suspect’s name in accordance with its protocols.

According to the caller in this incident, she identified the suspect as the same man who had fired a gun at her and her husband the previous night (10/03/26), prior to the officer-involved shooting on October 4, 2026.

Additionally, the suspect was arrested in June 2026 following an incident at the same intersection of Marconi Avenue and Eastern Avenue, where he was accused of pulling a firearm on a man and woman. The suspect was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon involving a firearm, and a firearm was recovered at that scene as well.
