August 29, 2021 -  The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Monument Fire for Sunday.

Fire: Hot and critically dry conditions will persist over the fires. The Monument Fire is now 163,155 acres increasing containment to 23%. The McFarland Fire remains at 122,653 acres and containment of 93%.

Smoke: Smoke transport near fires will continue to be terrain dominated, with increased upcanyon flows later today. Winds from the west-southwest will slowly start to clear smoke off areas closer to the coast, which have begun the day in smoke. Interior communities closer to the coast will see increases in smoke once the inversion lifts before slowly improving later today. Areas near active fire will continue to see Hazardous to Unhealthy conditions, especially in the morning as smoke from smoldering fires settles in drainages before improving slightly later in the day. Willow creek and nearby communities in the Trinity River drainage west of the fire, started the day in heavy smoke which should start to clear early afternoon once the upcanyon winds kick in. Redding and other communities along the Sacramento River will continue to see Unhealthy conditions with slight improvements later today with valley winds. Conditions will continue to improve tomorrow.
