September 2, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Dixie Fire for Thursday.
Fire: The Dixie Fire is 859,457 acres, an increase of 15,376 acres since yesterday, with 55% Containment. Winds still remain strong and relative humidity will remain low over much of the fire area leading to continued fire activity.
Smoke: We are expecting another active fire day with smoke production from continued low relative humidity and winds. Morning winds will continue to be from the southwest and will lift and transport smoke off to the northeast. Afternoon winds over the East Zone of the fire will shift, coming from the west bringing more smoke into Doyle and communities along Highway 395. Overnight winds will shift again, coming from the North and possibly bringing smoke into Portola and Quincy. Chester and surrounding areas will see smoke trapped in the valleys until the afternoon hours with smoke coming back overnight. The Sacramento Valley should continue to see an improvement in air quality, as winds over NW California fire will move smoke to the Northeast.
Health and Safety:
Long-term smoke events usually have periods when the air is better. When air quality improves, even temporarily, air out your home to reduce indoor air pollution https://www.airnow.gov/sites/default/files/2021-07/reduce-your-smoke-exposure.pdf
