Public service is a passion for Kris Casto. She understands that communities are built through participation and leadership. As past president of the Rotary Club, Mariposa Community Foundation and Mariposa Agri-nature Association and an active participant in the J. C. Fremont Foundation, Chamber of Commerce, AAUW and MCHS Interact Club, she has frequently led projects and fundraisers. On many occasions she has hosted at her farm events for non-profit groups including the Sierra Foothill Conservancy, J. C. Fremont Hospital and Weekend in the Country. She has contributed to and invested much in the community, resulting in dollars raised, recipients benefited or achievements recognized.
Kris, with her husband Harold, are grower/producers and local merchants who have built successful enterprises: Mount Bullion Vineyard and Casto Oaks Fine Art and Wine. They contribute to the local economy through employment, purchasing from other growers and supporting local artists. Frequent interactions with people in the community keep her aware of local issues, opinions and concerns. She has pledged to support the Williamson Act, safeguard our rural tradition, fully staff our Sheriff’s Department, fortify our fire protection, increase job opportunities, expand senior services and upgrade internet and cell service.
Before selecting Mariposa as her home, she served as planning commissioner, city council member and mayor in Los Altos, CA. At present, she is chairperson of LAFCO and a member of the Mariposa Agricultural Advisory Committee. She knows how to responsibly manage and budget on both an individual business and community scale.
Kris is eager to serve Mariposa as District 3 Supervisor. Show your support by voting for her on November 4.
