June 24, 2019 - The Yosemite Songwriting retreat showcase is slated for Music on the Green on Friday June 28, and on Saturday, June 29 there will be no music in the art park as the Mariposa Symphony Orchestra performs in Wawona that night (see link for more info.)
The Yosemite Songwriting showcase will feature performances by retreat founders Gail Dreifus (Meltwater Bridge Band), Adam Burns (Burnsy, Bootstrap Circus) and other talented songwriters who have come together at the retreat in recent years. Performers are from various parts of California and are excited to come to Mariposa to share a special evening of original songs of various genres and instrumentation. All Friday evening musicians are solo or duo performers
Yosemite Songwriting Retreat celebrates the craft of songwriting and the art of performing original songs. Their mission is to support songwriters of all skill levels and genres, create an inspiring and supportive community and provide a safe space where individuals can express themselves through music.
They achieve this through classes, workshops, mentoring, performance and recording opportunities at the Yosemite Bug Resort during their annual retreat. This year's retreat will be from October 11th - 14th featuring Grammy nominated singer / songwriter Mary Gauthier and Santa Cruz musical inspiration, Keith Greeninger. Mariposa Symphony Orchestra will perform their annual Independence Day Spectacular Concert outdoors on the grounds of the historic Wawona Hotel (now known as Big Trees Lodge) on 7:00 P.M. Saturday, June 29. This concert is free to the public. Audience members are encouraged to bring blankets for seating on the lawn area for this family-oriented event.
This concert is offered as a collaborative partnership, with gratitude to the MSO’s partners in Yosemite: The National Park Service, Michael T. Reynolds (Superintendent of Yosemite National Park) and his entire staff, as well as the park’s concessionaire Yosemite Hospitality, a subsidiary of Aramark. All performances begin at 7:00 P.M. (unless otherwise noted) at the Mariposa County Art Park, located on Hwy. 140, between 4th and 5th Streets, in historic downtown Mariposa, CA. Free parking on 5th Street along the Creek Walkway to the Park, also providing handicapped access.
The shows are free to the public – tips for the performers will be solicited, encouraged, and appreciated.
