June as conditions are conducive for burning. The training burn will take place in the Old Highway/Yaqui Gulch area in Mariposa. The training will consist of burning 4 sections of annual grass, oak woodland and sparse brush, totaling about 110 acres and will take place between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM each day. Smoke will be visible throughout the day from many locations throughout Mariposa County. The purpose of the burn is to train firefighting personnel in firing strategies and tactics. The management fire will also be used to reduced noxious weeds and reduce fuel loading and ladder fuels and promote native grasses.
