Only Republican in State Legislature to Chair a Committee

December 15, 2020 - SACRAMENTO – Senator Andreas Borgeas (R-Fresno) was appointed by California Senate President pro tempore Toni Atkins to serve as Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture. Senator Borgeas’ selection is significant, given he represents large swaths of the agricultural San Joaquin Valley, ranchlands in the foothills, and Amador County wine country. He is the only Republican in either house of the California Legislature to serve as chair of a committee.

“I am honored to chair the Senate Agriculture Committee, and I would like to thank President pro tempore Atkins for appointing me to serve in this role,” said Senator Borgeas. “The Central Valley is one of the most productive agricultural regions in the world, and we need strong, effective advocates in Sacramento on behalf of our agricultural community. I look forward to representing California’s agricultural regions and industries as Chairman of the Agriculture Committee.”
