December 15, 2020 - MONO COUNTY — Following this weekend’s storms, Caltrans has closed State Route 108/Sonora Pass and State Route 89/Monitor Pass for the winter as of noon today, December 15. They are the fourth and fifth roads to close for the winter season in District 9, following:

  • State Route 203 at Red’s Meadow
  • State Route 168 West at Aspendell
  • State Route 120 West at the Lee Vining gate

State Route 4/Ebbetts Pass also closed for the winter season today. Additionally, State Route 270/Bodie Road is currently in a storm closure due to snow.

State Route 120 East/Mono Mills Road and State Route 158/June Lake Loop remain open at this time, however, drivers should be prepared for winter driving conditions. All vehicles, including those with four-wheel drive and/or snow tires, should carry snow chains or other traction control devices when traveling during the winter storm season.

For the latest information on road closures and chain controls, please visit the Caltrans QuickMap site at quickmap.dot.ca.gov or download the app to your smartphone. You can also call the Road Condition Hotline at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
