March 6, 2021 - SACRAMENTO – On Friday, Governor Gavin Newsom issued the following statement regarding the death of Los Angeles Police Officer Jose Anzora:

“Jennifer and I are deeply saddened by the loss of Officer Jose Anzora after he was tragically injured while on-duty. Our thoughts are with his loved ones and his brothers and sisters at the Los Angeles Police Department as they mourn his loss and honor his service and sacrifice.”

On February 26, 2021, Officer Anzora, 31, was injured while directing traffic. Despite his courageous battle and the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries on March 3. Officer Anzora joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 2011 and spent most of his career in the Newton area.

Officer Anzora is survived by his wife, Heather, and his mother.

In honor of Officer Anzora, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.

Death of LAPD Officer

Our hearts are heavy once again as we mourn the loss of 31-year-old, Police Officer II Jose Anzora, Serial No. 40848, who passed away earlier today following a heroic battle for his life after being injured while on-duty.

Our deepest condolences go out to Officer Anzora's wife, family, colleagues, and friends in this most difficult time. His passing is a loss for not only his brothers and sisters in the LAPD, but for the people of Los Angeles for whom he gave his life. Officer Anzora is survived by his wife, his mother and family.

Officer Anzora began protecting and serving the people of Los Angeles in 2011, most recently in Newton Area, where he spent most of his career.

The Board of Police Commissioners President Eileen M. Decker also wanted to express her support with the following statement: "On behalf of the Board of Police Commissioners, I want to express our condolences to the family, fellow officers and civilians with whom Officer Anzora served and the entire LAPD family. This is such a tragedy and words cannot express the loss to all. We thank him for his service to our City of Angels and may he rest in peace."

In memory of Officer Anzora, Chief Moore has authorized the wearing of mourning bands, which we have sadly already been wearing in honor of LASD Deputy Thomas Albanese.

Officer Anzora, thank you for your service. May God welcome you home and may God bless the Los Angeles Police Department.
