September 8, 2021 - SACRAMENTO – Senate Resolution 47, authored by Senator Andreas Borgeas (R-Fresno), was unanimously approved by the California State Senate on September 7th.

Senate Resolution 47 observes the 20th anniversary of the catastrophic attacks on September 11th, 2001 and honors the almost 3,000 men, women, and children of more than 70 countries who lost their lives at september 11 2016 flags at art park mariposa californiathe World Trade Center, Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

“September 11th was an unforgettable day for the people of the United States,” said Senator Borgeas. “By observing the twentieth anniversary of the catastrophic attacks of September 11th, 2001, we honor the memory of the innocent lives lost and the courageous heroes on that solemn day. We will never forget.”

Twenty-nine members of the California State Senate co-authored SR 47: Senators Ben Allen (D-Santa Monica), Bob Archuleta (D-Pico Rivera), Toni Atkins (D-San Diego), Pat Bates (Laguna Niguel), Josh Becker (D-Silicon Valley), Dave Cortese (D-San Jose), Brian Dahle (R-Bieber), Bill Dodd (D-Napa), Steve Glazer (D-Contra Costa), Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield), Robert Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys), Ben Hueso (D-San Diego), Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger), Brian Jones (R-Santee), Sydney Kamlager (D-Los Angeles), John Laird (D-Santa Cruz), Monique Límon (D-Santa Barbara), Mike McGuire (D-Sonoma County), Melissa Melendez (R-Lake Elsinore), Josh Newman (D-Fullerton), Jim Nielsen (R-Tehama), Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh (R-Yucaipa), Richard Pan (D-Sacramento), Richard Roth (D-Riverside), Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park), Tom Umberg (D-Orange County), Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont), Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco), and Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita). 

In addition, Senator Borgeas authored Senate Bill 254, which was signed into law by the Governor on July 16, 2021. Senate Bill 254 encourages public schools to observe a moment of silence when September 11th falls on a school day. This effort originated last year when Senator Borgeas introduced SB 911.

Senator Borgeas also has the honor of representing the California 9/11 Memorial, located in Clovis, California. Each year, a group of community members, first responders and military service members gather at the memorial to honor the memory of the victims on September 11, 2001.
