TRAFFIC ADVISORY 
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 99, & 140 

March 15, 2024 - MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), State Route 99 (SR-99), and SR-140 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

INTERSTATE 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through July 31, 2024.

          o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.

STATE ROUTE 99

  • Full on and off-ramp closures on northbound SR-99 at Hammatt Avenue Over-Crossing for striping operations beginning Sunday, March 17, through Friday, March 22, 2024, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Full on and off-ramp closures on southbound SR-99 at Hammatt Avenue Over-Crossing for striping operations beginning Sunday, March 17, through Friday, March 22, 2024, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Full on and off-ramp closures on northbound SR-99 at Winton Parkway Over-Crossing for striping operations beginning Sunday, March 17, through Friday, March 22, 2024, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Full on and off-ramp closures on southbound SR-99 at Winton Parkway Over-Crossing for striping operations beginning Sunday, March 17, through Friday, March 22, 2024, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

STATE ROUTE 140

  • One-way traffic control at the San Joaquin River / Great Valley Grasslands State Park for bridge work beginning Monday, March 18, through Thursday, March 21, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Friday, March 22, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • One-way traffic control from the Los Banos Creek to the Mud Slough Overflow for bridge work on Monday, March 18, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues.
