April 10, 2024 - Sacramento, Calif. - On Tuesday the California Court of Appeal Third District upheld the Sacramento Superior Court’s ruling permitting Assemblymember Vince Fong to appear on the same March 5, 2024, ballot as a candidate for both the 32nd Assembly District and the 20th Congressional District.
 
“We disagree with and are disappointed with the Court of Appeals ruling. The opinion runs contrary to California history and practice. Both the Court of Appeals and trial court recognize this ruling leaves the door open to chaos, gamesmanship and voter disenfranchisement, and disadvantages other candidates,” said California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D. “My office sought to avoid such problems through this litigation. This ruling highlights the need for legislative attention. We are carefully considering all our options.”
