April 19, 2024 - Madera County Sheriff's Office officials report earlier this week, the Madera County Sheriff’s Communications Center received a call of a vehicle stuck in the snow on Mammoth Pool Road near the Jackass Organizational Camp. A couple from Florida visiting the area took a drive and became stuck in a snow drift while trying to drive to Globe Rock.

A Madera County OHV Unit returning from high country snow patrol was rerouted to respond to the request for assistance, along with a SAR Volunteer from the MCSO 4x4 team and a Forest Service Patrol Officer. SAR Units arrived to the area and were able to successfully get the stuck vehicle back on solid ground, then escorted the couple back down towards Bass Lake.

Though temperatures are beginning to rise in the valley, conditions in the higher elevations are still cold & snowy. We remind residents and visitors to exercise caution & be prepared for inclement conditions when recreating in our majestic mountain areas.
