84-Year-Old Elderly Man is Victim of a Hit-and-Run
November 28, 2024 – Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on November 23, 2024, Venustiano Duarte, an 84-year-old Hispanic male, went on his daily early morning walk. While on his walk, between 5:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., Duarte was struck by a vehicle, and the driver of the vehicle drove away. A second driver, an unknown Hispanic male, pulled over and helped Duarte after noticing that Duarte needed help but did not call 911 for assistance. At this time, it is unknown if the second driver was a witness to the incident.
On November 25, 2024, law enforcement was contacted, and Duarte was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. It was determined Duarte suffered from a broken arm and fractured ankle. He is currently in ICU but in stable condition.
The incident occurred near Terminal Ave. and Townsend Ave. in Riverbank. The vehicle involved is believed to be a medium-sized SUV. We would like to speak to the man who stopped and helped Duarte after the incident in hopes he can provide further information.
The investigation is ongoing, and deputies continue to search for video surveillance and witnesses.
