December 3, 2024 – Fresno Police Department officials report that at around 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 29, 2024, officers from the Northwest Policing District responded to a call of a suspicious subject in the area of West Austin Way and North Gregory Avenue. Officers were advised that a male, later identified as 30-year-old Eduardo Ochoa, was attempting to sell jeans in the neighborhood. The caller provided a description of the vehicle Ochoa was sitting in, and officers immediately learned that the vehicle was reported stolen.
Officers, including a K-9 unit, arrived nearby and developed a plan to safely approach the occupied stolen vehicle. As officers approached the car, in vehicles and on foot, they ordered Ochoa to exit the vehicle. Ochoa initially complied, raising his hands in the air, but suddenly turned and ran into an open field that was directly behind him. K-9 Zeke was deployed to apprehend the fleeing felony suspect.
Just before K-9 Zeke reached him, Ochoa pulled out what appeared to be a handgun. As K-9 Zeke apprehended Ochoa, he fell to the ground and the firearm fell to his side. The approaching officers were able to quickly handcuff him, keeping him from reaching the firearm. Ochoa was found to be wearing body armor as well.
Ochoa was transported to the hospital to be treated for his wounds from the K-9 apprehension and charged with for following crimes: Possession of a Stolen Vehicle (Felony), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Felony), Felon in Possession of Body Armor (Felony), Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm (Felony), Felon Carrying a Concealed Firearm (Felony), Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor)
