December 3, 2024 - Sierra National Forest (SNF) officials announce the SNF is continuing its winter and spring prescribed burning to manage forest fuels and enhance safety across Fresno, Madera, and Mariposa Counties. The initiative is planned through March 2025 and aims to improve ecosystem health and protect nearby communities from wildfires. Burning will occur in various areas across both Ranger Districts.
This week the Bass Lake Ranger District (BLRD) planning ignitions in the SugarPine Railroad area off Highway 41, and the High Sierra Ranger District (HSRD) exercising prescribed fire operations in the Swanson IRSC project area which will be visible from the Shaver lake area and from nearby HWY 168.
Be prepared for visible smoke in these areas and nearby highways.

Signage will be posted to keep you informed about visible smoke and flames. Remember to use caution near burn sites and check www.airnow.gov for air quality updates.
