April 18, 2025 – Fresno Police Department officials report that on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at 8:56 p.m., Northeast officers responded to the area of Cedar Avenue and Santa Ana Avenue regarding shots fired into an occupied residence. Upon arrival, officers observed that the front of the apartment had been struck multiple times by gunfire and located two expended casings near the walkway. Officers contacted two victims inside the apartment, who were unharmed. Officers conducted a protective sweep to ensure there were no victims of a gunshot wound. 

Officers learned the shooting stemmed from an earlier disturbance between two longtime friends. On Thursday, April 10, 2025, the SVB Tactical team and the Northeast DST team served a search warrant in the area of Swift Avenue and Seventh Avenue, where they located the suspect John Castillo who was found to be a convicted felon. He was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail for PC 245(a)(2) – Assault with a firearm, PC 246 – Shooting into an inhabited dwelling, and PC 29800(a)(1) - Being a felon in possession of a firearm or ammunition.
