June 4, 2025 - In response to the President’s budget proposal for the Department of Interior, which would cut 33% of the Department of Interior budget, including a 36% cut to the National Park Service budget, Phil Francis, Chair of the Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks, issued the following statement:
“If enacted, this budget would be the largest cut ever to the National Park Service and exacerbate an already deeply problematic and dangerous situation at our nation’s parks. This would be the worst case scenario.
“This budget would have devastating impacts on our National Parks and public lands and dramatically impact the public’s ability to safely enjoy our National Parks. Congress should reject this budget and fully fund our National Parks.”
The Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks represents over 3,400 current, former, and retired employees and volunteers of the National Park Service, with over 50,000 collective years of stewardship of America’s most precious natural and cultural resources.
