Rescued Hunter Shares Story of Survival

November 8, 2025 – Fresno County Sheriff's Office officials report that on October 13th, 65-year-old Ron Dailey of Selma set out on a hunting trip, however, he never returned home that evening as he had planned. He told his family he was going to the Shaver Lake / Courtright Reservoir area of Fresno County. His family filed a missing person report with the Sheriff’s Office that night and deputies determined his last cell phone signal was located on Dinkey Creek Road. Over the next few weeks, dozens of Search and Rescue members participated in an operation to find him and his vehicle, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

On November 1, 2025, 20 days after being reported missing, hunters found Ron Dailey alive while walking along the Swamp Lake trail. Ron had decided to walk away from the area where he and his pickup truck were stranded, hoping to find people in the area. Deputies and EMS responded and made contact with Ron. He received treatment at the hospital and was released to return home.
