May 21, 2026 – Tulare County Sheriff’s Office officials report that just before 10:30 a.m. on May 20, 2026, TCSO Deputies were called to the 400 Block of Matheny Road in Tulare following reports of a possible fight and to conduct a welfare check.

When they arrived, Deputies encountered a man inside the home who refused to come out. He later ran out the back door, pointing something at Deputies, which they believed was a weapon. Shots were fired and the object in the man’s hand was later determined to be a black cell phone that he was pointing at Deputies.
During the interaction, shots were fired, and the man sustained life-threatening injuries. Despite the prompt response of emergency medical services, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
In accordance with standard protocol for such incidents, Sheriff Boudreaux has requested the assistance of the Tulare Police Department and the California Department of Justice to oversee the investigation. This collaboration aims to ensure a thorough and transparent inquiry into the events that transpired.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family members. The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office is committed to transparency and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
