May 25, 2026 – Mariposa County Health & Human Services officials offer information on safely handling live poultry and eggs.
Poultry are domesticated birds raised for eggs or meat, including chickens, ducks, geese, guinea fowl, and turkeys. Many people enjoy raising young birds like chicks, ducklings, goslings, and poults, often to produce fresh eggs.
And while backyard poultry can be fun and educational, they can carry harmful germs that may cause illness in people, ranging from minor infections to serious, potentially life-threatening conditions.
