June 16, 2026 - Sierra National Forest officials say great news, camping season is here! We’re reopening 4 campgrounds, 89 campsites, 1 trail and 1 road. The Sierra National Forest has issued Forest Order 05-15-00-26-05 indicating the reopening of these developed features across the Forest, and we’re thrilled to welcome visitors this summer.
Offering a combined 60 sites, both Granite Creek and Fresno Dome campgrounds, await your next adventure on the Bass Lake Ranger District. Meanwhile, over on the High Sierra Ranger District, Catavee and Upper Billy Creek campgrounds are once again open. That’s another 29 sites waiting for campers, hikers, birdwatchers and stargazers.
These campgrounds reopening are the result of dedicated work and long hours by contractors and Forest Service crews—mitigating hazard trees, repairing facilities, clearing trails, improving access, and making sure each site is as safe as possible for public use and enjoyment.
Barnes Mountain Road (10S05) and the Barnes Mountain trail (25E321) are also open for travel and exploration.
So, tell your friends and family, grab your gear, and head out to experience the beauty of the Sierra National Forest. Please remember, be safe and pack out what you pack in!
Stay tuned for more information on roads, sites, and trails opening soon.
